BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB men's soccer players Babayele Sodade and Curtis Ushedo have been invited to participate in the training camp for the Canadian Men's Olympic Team. The camp will take place from Jan. 13-22 in Phoenix, Ariz.
The highlight of the camp will be a friendly against the United States at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. on Jan. 18.
"This is a great opportunity for both Curtis and Babayele," UAB head coach Mike Getman said. "I am very excited that they have been asked to represent their nation at such a high level."
Ushedo, who was also one of 54 seniors from across the country invited to compete at Major League Soccer's Combine in early January, will make his second appearance at the training camp for the Canadian National Team. The Mississauga, Ontario native was also invited to the team's training camp in early November.
Ushedo finished his UAB career as a three-time All-Conference USA honoree, earning first-team accolades in 2010. He was just named as a NSCAA First Team All-Region performer in 2010, marking the second consecutive year Ushedo has earned all-region accolades (second-team in 2009).
This past season, Ushedo started all 18 games and anchored a defense that ranked among the league leaders in nearly every category. The Blazers finished the season ranked second in the league in goals against average (1.11 GAA) and third in goals allowed (20) and shutouts (5). He played nearly every minute in the back and also accounted for five points on a pair of goals and an assist.
Like Ushedo, Sodade is also coming off an outstanding 2010 season. The Windsor, Ontario native finished his junior season ranked fifth in C-USA with nine goals on the year. Additionally, Sodade led the Blazers in goals, points (20), shots (44) and shots on goal (23). He has recorded 16 goals and six assists during his career.
Sodade was tabbed as a second-team all-region and all-conference honoree in 2010, marking the second consecutive year he earned a spot on both teams.
