UAB Soccer Player Curtis Ushedo Invited To MLS Combine

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB defender Curtis Ushedo is one of 54 collegiate seniors who have been invited to participate in the 2011 Major League Soccer Player Combine. The annual player combine will be held at Central Broward Regional Park in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Jan. 7-11.
The initial player list was determined by a panel of Division I college coaches, representing all conferences, who nominated and voted for players in conjunction with MLS coaches. These players will be joined by Generation adidas players, additional collegiate players from NCAA Division II and III schools, NAIA schools, and Division I alternates.
Ushedo becomes the eighth UAB men's soccer player to be invited to the MLS combine, all of whom have gone on to sign a contract with an MLS team. Furthermore, a total of 11 Blazers have gone on to sign contracts to play professionally in the MLS.
Ushedo finished his UAB career as a three-time All-Conference USA honoree, earning first-team accolades in 2010. He was just named as a NSCAA First Team All-Region performer earlier in the week, marking the second consecutive year Ushedo has earned all-region accolades (second-team all-region in 2009).
This past season, Ushedo started all 18 games and anchored a defense that ranked among the league leaders in nearly every category. The Blazers finished the season ranked second in the league in goals against average (1.11 GAA) and third in goals allowed (20) and shutouts (5). He played nearly every minute in the back during the season and also accounted for five points on a pair of goals and an assist.
Ushedo was also recently selected to attend the Under 23 Canadian National Team training camp.
