BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Sophomore Jaime Ritter has been named Conference USA Women's Golfer of the Week after her performance at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate last weekend. Ritter, who transferred from Miami (Fla.) this year, set a UAB record with her 36-hole score of 140 and captured the tournament's medalist honors.
Ritter shot a 71 in the final round on Sunday to go along with her first-round score of 69 and finished four strokes under par. The Davie, Fla., native's score of 69 in the first round tied the second-best 18-hole total in program history, just one stroke behind the school record. Ritter's record-setting score of 140 broke the previous school record of 141 set by Genevieve LeClair in 1997 at the Big Bird Invitational in Tampa, Fla.
Ritter's performance led the Blazers to an eighth-place finish. UAB recorded a 293 in the second round to finish with a team score of 593, both record-breaking performances for the Green and Gold. The second-round score of 293 topped the previous 18-hole best of 294 set in 2007 and the 36-hole total of 593 shattered the previous school record of 606 set in 2004. The Blazers combined for a score of 300 during Saturday's first round.
Ritter and the UAB women's golf team return to the links Oct. 4-5 at the USF-Waterlefe Invitational in Bradenton, Fla.
