Blazers Finish 11th At LPGA Xavier Invitational

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - With its best round of the weekend, the UAB women's golf team concluded play at the LPGA Xavier Invitational on a high note, finishing 11th in the tournament played at the par-72, 6,178-yard LPGA International Golf Course.
The Blazers posted a 30-over 318 on Sunday, ranking as one of the top team scores in the field in the final round.
"Today was much better other than a few bad holes for us," head coach Kim Wilcox said. "The girls played much better and seemed to have a lot more confidence on the course today. We all feel much more confident heading into next week's tournament in Memphis."
Sophomore Margaret Yeh turned in the Green and Gold's top finish in a tie for 30th at 25-over 241. Yeh posted a 5-over 77 in the final round to lead UAB on the course for the second time this fall.
Senior Lindsey Gipson recorded a 6-over 78 on Sunday to finished tied for 44th at 32-over 248, while junior Caitlin Watts finished with a 91 on the final round to finish tied for 51st at 36-over 252.
Rounding out the scoring for the Blazers was sophomore Holly Robinson with a 10-over 82. She finished 59th at 39-over 255. Freshman Jessica Rouillard shot 81 on Sunday and placed 66th at 43-over 259.
Robinson finished third in the field in par-5 scoring, finishing 1-under on the holes for the weekend for an average stroke of 4.92. UAB was sixth in the field, as a team, with 20 birdies over the tournament.
Old Dominion fired a 16-over 304 on Sunday, the lowest round of any team during the tournament, to claim the team title with a score of 924. Florida Gulf Coast shot a 312 to take second place (930), while Mercer rounded out the top three with a 311 on Sunday and 939 total score. UAB finished 11th overall in the 14-team field after shooting 318 in the final round for a total score of 984.
The Blazers return to the course next weekend, Oct. 22-23, at the Memphis Fall Invitational in Memphis, Tenn.
