UAB Fall Beach Blast Day 1 Individual Results
"I thought overall, we had a decent day," head coach Kim Wilcox said of her team that carded a 317 (+29) Monday. "It was a hard day on the course with the wind and the cool temperatures. Our girls had some putting troubles today. The weather is supposed to improve tomorrow."
The Blazers have a one-stroke advantage over third place Houston Baptist (318/+30), while Southern Miss holds the lead after carding a 17-over 305. There are nine teams competing in the tournament.
Individually, Southern Miss' Juliana Herrera is in first place after carding a two-over 74. In second place is teammate Vicky Correa, who finished the first round with a three-over 75. Southern Miss individual competitor Kaylee Random and Sam Houston State's Shelby Hardy sit in a tie for third place with scores of four-over 76.
For the Blazers, senior Lindsey Gipson, sophomore Margaret Yeh, and junior Caitlin Watts lead the Blazers in a three-way tie for 11th place with identical scores of seven-over 79. Sophomore Holly Robinson finished the first day one stroke behind her teammates with an eight-over 80 for 14th place.
Also for UAB, senior Jaime Ritter finished the first round with a 13-over 85, and freshman Jessica Rouillard, who is competing as an individual, finished with a 15-over 87.
Action continues tomorrow with an 8 a.m. CT start.
