HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The UAB women's golf team finished eighth at the Lady Eagle Invitational hosted by Southern Miss after closing the tournament Tuesday with a second-round total of 324.
The Blazers posted a two-day score of 647 at the par-72, 6,143-yard Hattiesburg Country Club in their second event this spring.
Troy recorded the best team score for the second straight day with a 308 to finish as the overall champion with a two-day total of 609. Southern Miss (618), Jacksonville State (620), Murray State (621) and Oklahoma City University (623) rounded out the top 5 in the 14-team field.
Caitlin Watts was the best individual finisher for UAB for the second straight tournament. The sophomore from LaGrange, Ga., closed the event in a tie for 12th place with a score of 155 (73-82). It was the second strong showing for Watts, who tied for second two weeks go at the South Alabama Women's Invitational.
UAB's Jaime Ritter finished three shots behind Watts in a tie for 21st place at 158 (75-83), where she was joined by teammate Margaret Yeh, who carded the Blazers' best score of the day at 78 to finish at 158 (80-78).
Holly Robinson tied for 34th place at 162 (81-81) and Ana Martin finished 63rd at 174 (86-88) to round out the UAB lineup.
Brandi Rodriguez of Southern Miss was the individual medalist, firing an even-par 144 over the two days to beat out Jessica Schiele of Oklahoma City University by one stroke.
UAB returns to action March 23-25 at the Cincinnati Intercollegiate in Crystal River, Fla. The Blazers have three events left before the Conference USA Championship in late April.
