Sitting In 2nd Place After Day One

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. -- The UAB women's golf team sits second in the seven-team Belmont Invitational after Monday's first round. The Blazers garnered a 317 stroke count, 13 shots off of the lead after day one.
Belmont University ended the first day of the tournament in first place with a team score of 304 at Old Hickory Country Club.
Jennifer Newman, from Belmont University, leads the tournament as an individual with a 1-under par 71.
UAB sophomore Caitlin Watts placed just below the tournament leader with a two-over par 74 as she grabbed the fourth place position.
Freshman Holly Robinson rounded out the top-15 individually with a one-round score of 80, while junior Jaime Ritter ends the first round of play tied for 16th place after shooting a 9-over par 81. Junior Ana Martin finished the first day tied for 20th place after she scored an 82. Freshman Margaret Yeh wrapped up the scoring for UAB with her 83 score to finish 25th place as an individual at the conclusion of the first day.
"Caitlin (Watts) is in great position after the first day, and our goal is to win," UAB coach Kim Wilcox said. "The course is not difficult and the girls feel good about tomorrow."
The tournament continues for UAB tomorrow in Old Hickory, Tenn. with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.
