Slow Start In The Samford Intercollegiate

ONEONTA, Ala. --The UAB women's golf team currently resides in ninth place in the nine-team Samford Intercollegiate that began Monday. The Blazers shot a 328 stroke count as a team in the first round of play, and they followed that up with a 324 in the second round.
Florida Southern ended the first day of the tournament in first place as they shot a team score of 25-over par 601.
Natalie Mitchell, from Samford University, leads the tournament as an individual with a 1-under par 143.
UAB sophomore Caitlin Watts graced the top-20 with a 9-over par 153 at the conclusion of day one, while junior Jaime Ritter ended the first two rounds of play with a 16-over par 160. Lindsey Gipson (167), Ana Martin (173) and Kristin Lottman (174) rounded out the team scoring for the Blazers.
Freshman Margaret Yeh fired a two-round score of 11-over par 155 to leads three UAB players competing as individuals. Holly Robinson (165) and Amanda Richey (168) are also in the field.
The tournament concludes for UAB tomorrow in Oneonta, Ala, with the final round starting at 8:30 a.m.
