BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB men’s soccer team has moved up to No. 23 in the country in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national poll, which was released on Tuesday.
The Blazers (5-2-2, 0-0 C-USA) are ranked No. 1 in the Midwest Region according to the NSCAA, which is their highest regional ranking this season. Furthermore, UAB is ranked No. 23 in the latest SoccerTimes.com top-25 poll and No. 26 in the CollegeSoccerNews.com’s top-30 rankings.
The Blazers enter Conference USA play this weekend riding a four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1), most recently defeating Lipscomb, 3-0, this past Saturday.
When UAB and SMU (5-2-2, 1-0) square off on the pitch this Saturday night, it will serve as a rematch of the 2011 C-USA Championship final. The Blazers won the regular season conference championship last year, but fell, 2-0, to the Mustangs in the tournament’s championship match.
The contest is set to begin at 7 p.m. CT with a free dinner being served to all UAB students 60 minutes prior to kickoff.
