Volleyball Treks To UTSA And Louisiana Tech

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB volleyball team will travel to UTSA and Louisiana Tech in its final road matches of the regular season. The Blazers are currently eighth in Conference USA with an overall record of 18-10, and 5-5 in league play.

The Blazers will travel to San Antonio to take on UTSA (18-7, 10-1 C-USA) on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. CT. It will be just the fourth meeting between the two teams, with the Roadrunners holding a 2-1 advantage in the series. In the last meeting, the teams opened the 2012 season with UTSA edging out UAB 3-2.

UAB will head to Ruston, La. on Sunday, Nov. 10 to face Louisiana Tech (7-18, 1-9 C-USA) at 1 p.m. CT. This will be the first meeting between the two teams, as Louisiana Tech just joined Conference USA this season.

About the Blazers
UAB is currently third in the conference with a team hitting percentage of .215. The Blazers are led by sophomore Sam Skinner with an average of 4.29 kills per set and 4.82 points per set. Juniors Kiriana Hirini and Sara Rishell have been the most efficient hitters with .339 and .336 hitting percentage, respectively.

UAB's defense has been strong, with senior Rachel Fairbanks averaging 4.95 digs per set. Rishell and Hirini are third and fourth in block per set, averaging 1.17 and 1.16, respectively.

Scouting the Roadrunners
UTSA comes in the match with just one loss in conference play. It leads C-USA in blocks per set with 2.58 and is second in the conference in hitting percentage (.262), opponent hitting percentage (.158) and digs per set (17.87). McKenzie Adams leads the Roadrunner attack with a conference-best 5.51 kills per set and 5.97 points per set. Defensively, Kylie Schott ranks second among the conference with 1.18 blocks per set.

Scouting the Lady Techsters
Louisiana Tech is coming off of a loss to North Texas last week. The Techsters are averaging 10.87 kills per set as a team. They are led by Xzache Mathis, who is averaging 3.51 kills per set. Defensively, Alejandra Aviles leads the team with 3.68 digs per set and Caitlin Germany is putting down an average of 0.84 blocks.
