UAB Men's Tennis Blanks Troy, 7-0

TROY, Ala. ----- The UAB men's tennis team swept singles and doubles here Wednesday en route to a 7-0 victory over Troy.
The Blazers (14-9), ranked No. 75 in the latest ITA national rankings, took a 1-0 lead after convincing wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles and never looked back.
Chris Helliar and Lucas Dirube teamed at No. 2 to lead UAB to an 8-4 win over Patrick Eichler and Anas Rouchdi while Rafael Rondino and Luiz Felipe Pinto were 8-3 winners over Daniel Bustamante and Tommy Cundy at the No. 3 spot.
The match at No. 1 doubles between UAB's David Zimmerman and Tom Puetz and Troy's Sami Ghorbel and Andre Stabile was suspended once the match was clinched with the Blazer duo leading 7-4.
The Blazers then went on to win at all six singles positions.
Zimmerman extended his singles win streak at No. 1 to 14 straight with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Rouchdi. UAB also won in straight sets at No. 4, 5 and 6.
Helliar cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 over Eichler, Pinto claimed a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles over Stabile and Dirube took a 6-4, 6-1 decision at the No. 6 spot over the Trojans' Josh Hurd.
Puetz and Rondino went three sets at their singles matches at No. 2 and 3, but the two Blazers prevailed on both courts.
Puetz defeated Ghorbel, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 2 with Rondino victorious at No. 3 by a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6) score.
Troy fell to 7-11 with the loss.
