Men's Golf Finishes Fourth At C-USA Championship

TEXARKANA, Ark. – The UAB men’s golf team remained in fourth place after the final round of the Conference USA Men’s Golf Championship played in Texarkana, Ark. on Tuesday. UAB fired a team score of 291 to finish at 873. Thomas Sutton finished in a tie for eighth place after a final round 69 (-3).
Sutton carded five birdies in his final round to finish at three-under par for the day and even for the tournament. Sutton, who finished tied for eighth, has finished in the top-10 in each of the Blazers last two events.
“It was tough conditions and Sutton handled it very well. He posted one of the lowest scores of the day,” said head coach Alan Kaufman.
Paul Dunne shot a four-over par 76 in the third round to finish the tournament with a three-over par 219. Just behind Dunne, were Hunter Hawkins and Sam Love finished with totals of 220 and 221 after rounds of 74 and 72, respectively. Wilson McDonald rounded out the scoring for the Blazers with a four-over par 76 to end the event at 225.
The Blazers team score of 291 in the final round kept them in fourth place behind Houston, SMU and UCF. Houston’s Roman Robledo earned medalist honors with a three-round total of 208 (-8). SMU’s Bryson Dechambeau and Marshall’s Nathan Kerns finished second and third in the tournament at six-under and five-under, respectively.
“We played real well all week. We knew we needed a top-five finish to put ourselves in good shape for regional and we did that,” added Kaufman.
