Cross Country Set To Open Season At Troy Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB cross country team will open the 2013 season in Troy, Ala. on Friday night at the Troy Invitational. The 3k race is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
Leading the Blazers this season will be graduate students Elinor Kirk and Kate Brown. Kirk, a First-Team Conference USA selection last fall, ran in five of UAB's seven races last season and finished in the top-five in three events. Kirk finished the season with a sixth place showing at the C-USA Championship and a 21st place finish at the NCAA South Regional.
Brown was a Third-Team All-Conference selection last fall and competed in four of the Blazers seven races. She posted a ninth place finish at the Auburn Invitational and a top-20 finish in the C-USA Championship.
Joining Kirk and Brown as returners to the squad are senior Rachel Harley, juniors Kristie Leybourne and Jenna Wesley, and sophomore Kara Woods.
New to the squad in 2013 are Kirsty Addy, Hannah Coffin, Anna Jarman, Sarah Livett, Lindsay Miller, Laurie Pray, Lauren Scott and Allison Wortel.
The Troy Invitational marks the first of two consecutive races the Blazers will run in the state of Alabama. The Blazers are also slated to compete in the South Alabama Invitational in Mobile, Ala. on Sept. 14.
