UAB Bowling Finishes Fifth At Allstate Sugar Bowl Invitational

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The UAB bowling team finished fifth at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Invitational after winning one of three matches on Sunday in New Orleans, La. It was the first of three fall tournaments for the Blazers.
UAB had to begin the day paired up with No. 4 Vanderbilt in the Best of Seven Bracket matches. The Blazers and Commodores were evenly matched in the first game, with Vanderbilt just edging UAB 182-181.
Vanderbilt won the second game, but UAB battled to win the third game 234-212 to make it 2-1. The Commodores took the next two games to win the match and advance up the bracket.
In the second match the Blazers faced tournament host Tulane. The match took all seven games, as UAB won the second, then rallied off wins in the fifth and sixth games to send it to a tie-breaking seventh. Tulane held on to win that game 224-179 and take the match.
The Blazers finished the day with a 4-1 win over Bethune-Cookman to secure a fifth place finish. The Blazers won the first game before Bethune-Cookman tied it up 1-1. UAB was able to win the next three games to take the match.
UAB will have a long break before its next fall tournament at the Hornet Classic in Montgomery, Ala., which runs Nov. 14-16.
