BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomore Emma Schroer was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week for her performances in the UAB volleyball team’s two wins last week.
Schroer, a native of Ogallalla, Neb., started both of UAB’s two matches at libero this past week. She helped lead the defensive efforts recording back-to-back double figure digs. Schroer totaled 28 digs in seven sets to average 4.00 per set.
She led the Blazers in both matches, recording 14 digs in the 3-0 victory over Middle Tennessee and adding 14 more in the win over Marshall, 3-1. Her efforts helped the UAB defense hold both opponents to under .200 hitting percentage. The Blue Raiders hit a .137 attack percentage, while the Thundering Herd was held to just a 0.69 clip.
This is the first conference weekly honor for Schroer and the first for UAB this season.
