FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - The UAB football team fell to Arkansas, 45-17, Saturday afternoon at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
Jonathan Williams rushed for a career-high 153 yards and had two touchdowns, and 350-pound offensive guard Sebastian Tretola had a touchdown pass as Arkansas rolled to a 45-17 win over UAB on Saturday.
The win snaps a three-game losing streak for the Razorbacks (4-4), who led 35-0 at halftime and outgained the Blazers 484-195.
UAB outscored the Razorbacks by a 17-10 margin in the second half.
Tretola provided the biggest highlight for the Razorbacks with his 6-yard touchdown pass to Alan D'Appollonio in the second quarter.
Williams topped his previous best of 151 yards rushing, set last year against Louisiana-Lafayette, while Brandon Allen added 205 yards passing and a pair of touchdowns.
UAB (4-4), which had a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by JJ Nelson, played without injured quarterback Cody Clements.
Clements was injured late in a loss to Middle Tennessee last week, and the junior was replaced on Saturday by freshman Jeremiah Briscoe - who finished 6-of-18 passing for 62 yards.
For Nelson, his kickoff return for a touchdown was his second this season and the third of his career.
The Blazers were held without an offensive score until Briscoe's late 33-yard touchdown pass to Nyiakki Height. The touchdown reception was the first of Height's Blazer career.
"I give Arkansas all the credit in the first half," said UAB head coach Bill Clark. "They were as good as advertised. I thought we had a good scheme defensively. Obviously it hurt us a little bit to not have our starting quarterback out there. To give them some credit, their defense was outstanding in the first half. It was disappointing that we couldn't get a stop in the first half. Defensively, I really think we made some adjustments in the second half and played very well.
"The special teams played well for us in the second half. And we moved the ball from offense, just not enough."
UAB returns to Conference USA action next Saturday when it travels to Florida Atlantic for a 6 p.m. CT kick in Boca Raton, Fla. The game will be televised by ASN (American Sports Network).
