BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB women's golfer Kayla Wilbourn has been named the Conference USA Female Co-Golfer of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
The freshman from Cairo, Ga. had a breakthrough round on Tuesday, turning in a 2-under 70 to cap the fall season for the Blazers at the UAB Fall Beach Blast in Gulf Shores, Ala.
After turning in a 4-over 76 on Monday, Wilbourn fought back to record a 2-under 70 to tie for the third-lowest round in program history. She finished tied for fourth (76-70 = 146) out of the 58 individual golfers, the best finish of any UAB individual this season.
Her efforts helped lead the Green and Gold to a tie for seventh place finish after firing a season-low 303 in round two. The Blazers totaled a team score 607 for the event, tied for the fourth-best 36-hole total in program history.
Wilbourn is the second UAB women's golfer to earn the award this season after fellow freshman Sydney Snodgrass earned the honor back on Oct. 1.
Wilbourn and the Blazers will return to the course in the spring to continue their 2014-15 season.
