BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior defender Ian Michalak of the UAB men's soccer team has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 4 Team, as announced on Thursday.
The Capital One Academic All-District Teams are voted on by the members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) and recognize student-athletes who excel on their field of competition and in the classroom.
This marks the second year in a row Michalak has earned the honor, after being named to the Capital One Academic All-America Second Team last season. He became just the second player in program history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
Michalak has played in nine games for the Blazers this season, helping the UAB backline to record two shutouts and hold opponents to one goal or less in 10 different contests. He's appeared in more than 30 games in his career and has one goal in his tenure with the Green and Gold.
In the classroom, the neuroscience major owns a 3.92 GPA. He has earned Conference USA Academic Medal and Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades every year while at UAB.
Michalak and the Blazers return to action on Saturday when they close the 2014 home slate against Old Dominion in Senior Night at West Campus Field. Kick is set for 7 p.m. as Michalak and UAB's group of five seniors will be honored prior to the match.
