Michalak, Abrahart Named To C-USA All-Academic Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior defender Ian Michalak and redshirt junior defender Stewart Abrahart of the UAB men's soccer team have been named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Michalak was recently named to the Capital One Academic All-District 4 Team. The Collierville, Tenn. native earned C-USA All-Academic honors last season and also garnered CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
Michalak has played in 11 games for UAB this season, helping the Blazer backline record three shutouts. He's appeared in more than 30 games in his career and has one goal in his tenure with the Green and Gold.
In the classroom, the neuroscience major owns a 3.92 GPA. He has earned the C-USA Academic Medal and C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades every year while at UAB.
Abrahart was named to the C-USA All-Academic Team for the first time in his career. He has been a key member of the 2014 squad, providing defensive coverage on the UAB backline. He has helped the Blazers hold opponents to one goal or less in 11 games this season, and also pitched in offensively with three assists in three-straight games (Sept. 20 at Coastal Carolina, Sept. 23 vs. Missouri State, Sept. 27 at FIU).
In the classroom, Abrahart owns a 3.62 GPA majoring in economics analysis and policy. He has earned C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades all three years at UAB.
The Blazers open up postseason play on Wednesday at the C-USA Championship in Norfolk, Va. No. 21 UAB and Marshall are set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. CT in a quarterfinal matchup.
