Friday’s match will serve as the ‘Fight Like Hal’ night, UAB’s annual cancer awareness match. The event, which raises awareness for all types of cancer, was started in honor of the late Hal Messersmith, a former UAB assistant coach and director of operations who passed away from cancer in July of 2013.
Fans who attend the match will have the opportunity to sign a memory wall to honor Messersmith. The first 250 fans will receive ‘Fight Like Hal’ t-shirts and purple bands will be handed out to all fans in attendance.
Senior Night
Sunday’s match will honor UAB’s five seniors, Leslie Ekpe, Kiriana Hirini, Sara Rishell, Lindsay Simmons and Bethanie Thomas. Fans are encouraged to stick around after the match, as each student-athlete will be recognized.
