Bowling Remains Ninth At Kat Klash

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB bowling team finished with four wins in six matches at the Kat Klash Tournament on Saturday. The Blazers remain in ninth place after the second day.
UAB (24-14) improved to 7-5 on the weekend with four wins and just two losses in its six traditional matches. The Blazers finished with a total pinfall of 5,479 in its traditional games and has 10,841 to average 180.1 per game through 13 matches.
UAB split two matches with No. 20 Monmouth, falling in the first game, 921-885, but winning the second, 981-839.
In the third game, the Blazers bowled a 965 to top Adelphi’s 928, then a 909 in the fourth match of the day put down Texas Southern. UAB earned its fourth win over the day with a 872-638 win over Grambling in the fifth game before falling to Tulane, 889-867 in a close match to conclude the day.
Individually, freshman Jessica Mellott was the lone Blazer in the top 25, finishing 21st overall. Mellott had a total pinfall of 1,177 to average 196.17. She had a high of 225 in the fourth game and finished over 200 in two of her six games. S
enior Marissa Ferreira was 35th with a 184.33 average, sophomore Madeleine McDuff finished 51st and senior Jennafer Mellott was 58th to all finish in the top 60 out of 117.
UAB will begin Sunday’s best-of-seven bracket play against Monmouth.
