Bethanie Thomas Named To Capital One Academic All-District Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB volleyball senior Bethanie Thomas was selected to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District Team the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Thursday.
The Huntsville, Ala. native earned her second academic honor since joining UAB in 2013. Thomas currently boasts a 3.95 GPA in civil engineering while also appearing in every game as a Blazer. She was named to the District 4 second team.
A Conference USA All-Academic selection in 2013, Thomas has been a leader on and off the court for UAB. So far in 2014, she has played in all 27 matches and started 25. She has played all over the court this season, even serving as libero for two matches.
Thomas leads UAB with 2.40 digs per set and is fourth with 1.86 kills per set. She has also added 25 assists, 34 blocks and nine service aces.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve appearing in at least 50 percent of their team's games, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher on a scale of 4.00, and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution.
UAB has five matches remaining in the 2014 season. The Blazers will travel to UTSA Friday and Middle Tennessee on Sunday to close out its C-USA road slate.
