Student-Athlete Of The Week: Kendra Gipson

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior Kendra Gipson of the UAB track and field team was named the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced on Tuesday. The Student-Athlete of the Week recognizes student-athletes who excel on and off their respective fields of competition.
The Tuscaloosa, Ala. native kicked off her senior campaign in the triple jump last Friday at the Birmingham-Southern Icebreaker. Gipson placed 10th overall out of 22 jumpers in the triple jump with a leap of 11.51m (37-09.25). She recorded marks of 11.17m, 11.51m and 11.00m in the opening round of competition.
Gipson enters the 2014-15 season as UAB's top returner in the triple jump, having recorded a jump of 11.89m (39-00) last year at the Conference USA Indoor Championships.
In the classroom, Gipson has maintained a 3.01 GPA at UAB majoring in community health. She was also named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll following her freshman season. Gipson and the Blazers return to action Jan. 9-10 at the UAB Blazer Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
