Cross Country Captures Title At Azalea City Classic

MOBILE, Ala. ---- UAB's cross country team placed four runners in the top 10 as the Blazers captured the team title Friday evening at the Azalea City Classic.
UAB claimed the team championship with 35 points while runner-up Louisiana-Lafayette had 44. Host South Alabama placed third in the meet with 56 points.
The top finisher in the 6K race for UAB at the Mobile Fairgrounds was sophomore Sarah Livett. Livett was the overall runner-up as she crossed the finish line with a time of 20:41.24.
The Blazers' Rebecca Evans and Lucy Crookes placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the individual standings. Evans recorded a time of 21:02.94 while Crookes finished at 21:12.90.
Senior Lauren Scott was the fourth top 10 finisher for UAB as she placed eighth in the collegiate field with a mark of 22:04.01. Former Blazer Rachel Harley, running unattached in the meet, took sixth overall in the race at 21:29.19.
Louisiana-Lafayette's Ashley Irwin was the individual winner with a time of 20:36.39, just edging the Blazers' Livett.
"It is always good to come away from any meet with a win," said UAB head cross country coach Tony Houchin. "This meet gives us a good idea of where we are at this point in the season. There's a lot of season to go yet and we have a lot of room to improve."
Other UAB finishers included Kristie Leybourne (16th, 22:52.47), Hannah Coffin (19th, 23:17.12), Allison Wortel (26th, 24:31.27), Laurie Pray (31st, 25:15.66) and Jenna Wesley (35th, 25:43.95).
