Women's Golf In Fourth At Chris Banister Classic

GLENCOE, Ala. - The UAB women's golf team opened its fall season on Sunday at the Chris Banister Golf Classic with a 314 in round one to claim a fourth-place position heading into Monday's second round.
"The course was tough, the greens were fast and large," head coach Kim Wilcox said following the round. "I'm very pleased with the play of the freshmen. Hopefully the seniors will step it up tomorrow."
Freshman Sydney Snodgrass led the way for the Blazers, firing a 3-over 75. She enters Monday tied for fifth just two strokes off the lead held by three individuals from Samford, Troy and Morehead State.
Kayla Wilbourn, another newcomer to the Green and Gold's 2014-15 squad, also put herself in the top-10 after day one after shooting a 4-over 76.
Senior Holly Robinson checked in with an 8-over, 80 to sit tied for 27th. Senior Margaret Yeh carded an 11-over, 83 to sit in a tie for 38th, as did fellow senior Jesse Lawley.
Troy leads the field of 11 after the first 18 holes after firing a 17-over, 305 at the RTJ at Silver Lakes on Sunday.
UAB enters Monday's round just nine strokes off the team lead and six strokes off second place.
The Blazers will be paired with Jacksonville State and South Alabama Monday morning as Yeh will tee-off first for UAB at 8:42. Lawley, Robinson, Wilbourn and Snodgrass will follow to lead UAB into day two of the action.
