Bowling Picks Up Five Wins At Kutztown Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Five wins in six matches placed the UAB bowling team in 13th after the first day at the Kutztown Bowling Invitational on Friday. The Blazers picked up two wins over top 20 teams.
The teams competed in six baker format matches to begin the tournament. UAB (37-23) finished 5-1 on the day and recorded a total pinfall of 5,697 to sit 13th among the field of 27 teams.
The only loss on the day came in the first match against Adelphi, as the Blazers fell 908-874. UAB rebounded to win five-straight to close out the first day strong.
In the second match, the Blazers were paired with Mount Aloysius. UAB cruised to a 953-674 win to spark the momentum. The team added a 912-772 win over Medaille in the third match and topped St. Francis University – Pa., 973-899 in the fourth match.
The highlight of the day came in the fifth match when the Blazers were up against No. 2 Fairleigh Dickinson. It was a close match, but UAB pulled off the upset with a 1,024-989 win.
For the second-straight match, the Blazers were up against a ranked opponent. In the sixth game, UAB topped tournament-host and No. 18 ranked Kutztown, 961-913, to cap off a successful first day.
The tournament will continue on Saturday with the traditional games beginning at 9:25 a.m. ET.
