UAB Remains 13th At Kutztown Bowling Invitational

READING, Pa. – Freshman Jessica Mellott finished 11th individually to help the UAB bowling team win three of its five matches on Saturday at the Kutztown Invitational. The Blazers remained in 13th place after the second day.
UAB (40-25) finished with three wins in five traditional matches on the day. The Blazers posted a total pinfall of 5,645 to give them a two-day total of 11,342 to average 189.0 per game.
The first match of the day pitted UAB against No. 14 Saint Francis Brooklyn College. It was a close match but the Blazers were edged, 1,046-915. UAB then lost another close one as Cheyney took the 910-854 win in the second match.
The Blazers would bounce back to close out the day strong, picking up a wins over Monmouth, 1,021-916. The success sparked momentum for UAB as it defeated Morgan St., 999-899, and closed out the day with a win over Pitt-Bradford, 839-785.
Individually, Mellott was the top finisher for the Blazers taking 11th. The Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. native posted a total pinfall of 1,274 to average 212.33 in six total games. Mellott finished with four games over 200, including a high of 247.
Freshman Shana Taulbee finished in 47th with a total pinfall of 1,155 (192.50 per game). Taulbee bowled two games over 200 with a high of 217. Two other Blazers finished in the top-100 among the field of 170. Freshman Amy Quick took 60th (187.33) and senior Ali Long was 82nd (163.50).
The Kutztown Invitational will conclude on Sunday with the best 4-of-7 championship bracket play. UAB will open the day against Sacred Heart University beginning at 8:25 a.m. ET.
