BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB volleyball team returns to league play as the Blazers host Florida Atlantic in Bartow Arena on Friday.
First serve against the Owls is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT. UAB is looking to notch its first win in conference play in the 2015 season.

Chasing Down History
Junior outside hitter Gabby Deshotel is on the verge of chasing down the 10th most kills in a single-season in UAB history and the most kills tallied by a Blazer in a single season since 2006.
With 365 total kills in 2015, Deshotel is only 92 shy and on pace to tie the 457 mark set by Julie Myers in 1988 and tied by Martina Shields in 2002. The mark is the 10th most kills in a single season in the program’s history. Should Deshotel reach the mark, it will be the most kills a Blazer has recorded since 2006 when Ivana Bozic tallied 656.
Series History
In the brief history between the two squads, the overall series between UAB and FAU is tied at 1-1. The Owls notched the latest win, sweeping UAB in straight sets last season.
In last season’s match, Sydney Nelson led the team with eight kills while Deshotel recorded six.

Scouting the Opponent
Florida Atlantic enters Friday’s contest with a 12-6 record overall while sitting fifth in the league with 4-2 C-USA record. The Owls opened the season 4-0 with four sweeps at the FAU Invitational before stumbling at the Lipscomb Invitational. Florida Atlantic closed tournament play with a 2-1 outing at the Courtyard Mayo Classic and finishing 1-1 at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational.
The Owls opened conference play with a 3-1 loss to fourth place FIU before notching a 3-1 win over Southern Miss to move even in the league. After being swept by Rice, FAU has won three-straight conference matches with wins over UTEP, Marshall and Charlotte
Maja Ristic leads FAU with 230 kills to average 3.77 per set, sixth best in the league.
Gabriela Martins tops all of C-USA with her league-leading .425 attack percentage. The freshman has tallied 139 kills for the Owls. FAU is evenly spread offensively with four hitters totaling over 100 kills.
