UAB Notes
Duo Nearing Single-Season Records
Juniors Gabby Deshotel and Emma Schroer have had outstanding offensive and defensive seasons, respectively, and both Blazers are nearing record performances. With 403 kills, Deshotel is inching near the 10th-most kills in a single season. Julie Myers and Martina Shields currently hold the record of 457.
Schroer is also zeroing in on the 10th-most digs in a single season. The libero’s 411 digs is just short of the 453 recorded by Ivana Bozic in 2008. With six matches remaining in the regular season, both Blazers are on pace to surpass those marks and etch their names in the UAB record books.
Series History
Friday’s meeting will be the 21st between UAB and Marshall. The Blazers lead the all-time series, 11-9, but the Herd was victorious earlier this season, notching a 3-1 victory over UAB in September.
In the earlier showdown, Deshotel recorded her eighth double-double of the season with a team-leading 21 kills and 16 digs. Junior Amber Treace dished out 37 assists and 11 digs to record her fourth double-double of the season.
Junior Kassidy Sullivan had a breakout performance against the Herd, setting career highs with seven kills and a .613 clip.
The Blazers will also face Middle Tennessee for the 21st time in program history. UAB leads the all-time series, 13-7. The Blue Raiders hold the advantage in the season series, sweeping the Blazers in straight sets.
Deshotel led the Blazers with 12 kills and a .219 attack percentage against Middle Tennessee. The junior added four digs and three blocks.

During the stretch, Marshall has topped North Texas, 3-1, UTEP, 3-2, and UTSA, 3-1. The Herd suffered a 3-1 loss to North Texas and enter Friday’s contest off a 3-2 loss to Charlotte.
Cassie Weaver leads the Herd offense with 330 kills (3.44 per set) while attacking at a .178 clip. Weaver ranks second on the squad in digs with 312 total. Ally Kiekover has totaled 270 kills for the Herd and attacks at a .400 clip, the second-highest mark in the conference.
Kayla Simmons sets up the Marshall offense with 899 assists to rank sixth in the league. Allie Kellerman is the defensive leader for the Herd and ranks second in the conference with 454 digs.
Middle Tennessee
Middle Tennessee sits 10th in the Conference USA standings with a 6-19 record overall and a 4-7 mark in the league. UAB and the Blue Raiders tangled in mid-September, and since, Middle Tennessee has faced stiff competition.
After closing tournament action with a 1-2 performance at the Hokie Invitational, the Blue Raiders have struggled in conference play with a 3-7 record. The Blue Raiders picked up wins over Louisiana Tech, 3-1, and Rice, 3-2, before dropping four straight matches. The Blue Raiders ended their losing streak last Sunday against FIU, 3-2.
Middle Tennessee will face Louisiana Tech on Friday before traveling to Bartow Arena.
Chelsea Ross paces the Blue Raiders offense with 427 kills (4.80 per set) while totaling 232 digs. Delany Taylor serves as the Blue Raiders’ setter, totaling 615 assists. Jacqueline Lux leads the defense with 323 digs (4.19 per set).
