Gabby Deshotel Earns All-Conference USA Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Junior Gabby Deshotel represented UAB volleyball in postseason accolades as the outside hitter was named to the All-Conference USA squad, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Deshotel was selected to the All-Conference USA Second Team after serving as the Blazers' top offensive weapon throughout the 2015 season.

The outside hitter attacked at a .200 clip with 1473 attempts, the fourth-highest in a single season. Deshotel added 15 assists and 21 service aces to the UAB offense.
Defensively, Deshotel was equally impressive with 260 digs, the second-most on the squad. The junior added five solo blocks and 44 block assists for a total of 49 blocks this season.
Deshotel finished the 2015 season with 20 or more kills in 10 matches as well as totaling 12 double-doubles for the Blazers. Deshotel set single-game career highs in kills (26), total attempts (80), attack percentage (.586) assists (2), total blocks (7) and digs (16).
The junior currently ranks fourth in the league in kills and points while ranking eighth in the country in total kills and 13th in points.
"Gabby has grown tremendously as a player this season," said head coach Kerry Messersmith. "She has stepped up to be one of the leaders of our program. I'm very proud of the work she has put in this season. It is a very much deserved honor."
