Blazers in Fifth at UAB Fall Beach Blast

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The UAB women’s golf team sits in a tie for fifth place after the first round of the UAB Fall Beach Blast on Monday. The Blazers finished at 14-over 302 for the day at the par-72 Cypress-Marsh Course at Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club.
Sophomore Kayla Wilbourn fired a 3-under 69 to share the day one lead with Kennedy Bodfield of McNeese State. Wilbourn heads into Tuesday’s final round looking to win her first individual collegiate tournament.
“Kayla had a great round today,” said UAB head coach Kim Wilcox. “We are in a great position to make a move up the scoreboard in the final round tomorrow.”
McNeese State is currently in first place at 6-over 294 with a five-stroke lead over Southern Miss and Austin Peay, while Western Kentucky is in fourth place with a 12-over 300. UAB is eight strokes back from McNeese State with 18-holes to play.
Junior Rebecca Chandler sits in the top-30 after shooting 5-over par (77) in the first round. Sydney Snodgrass and Juliana Sebastian are one stroke behind in a tie for 39th place following rounds of six-over 78.
Imy Huxley rounded out the day for The Green and Gold with an 8-over 80.
Starting times for Tuesday’s final round will begin at 8:00 a.m CT.
