DELAND, Fla. - The UAB bowling team finished in third place at the Wildcat Invitational after two wins in the bracket style championship on Sunday.
UAB (49-32) finished 6-7 overall for the three-day tournament, including a 2-1 finish on the final day of competition. The Blazers posted a total pinfall of 2,672 in the best 4-of-7 baker style matches.
In the first match of the day UAB was paired with No. 20 Tulane. The Blazers fell to the Green Wave, 4-2. The Green Wave won the first three games, but the Blazers fought back to win the next two to be down 3-2. UAB just could not complete the comeback as Tulane won the sixth game to take the match.
That set up a matchup with Florida A&M. The Blazers came out strong in the second match to win 4-0 and advance up in the bracket. UAB took on Bethune-Cookman in the third and final match of the day. The Blazers won the first three games, fell in the fourth, but closed out the match with a 199-176 win in the fifth game.
UAB will now prepare for the SFA Stormin' Jack Classic in Houston, Texas next weekend. The tournament will run from Friday, Feb. 13 through Sunday, Feb. 15.
