UAB Travels To Siesta Key For Pairs Tournament

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB sand volleyball team will travel to Siesta Key, Fla. for the 2015 Fiesta on Siesta key Collegiate Sand Volleyball Pairs Tournament. The tournament runs Saturday and Sunday.
This will be the second year that the Blazers have participated in the tournament. UAB (7-8) will be among 27 schools as 170 pairs are slated to compete. It is the largest event in the country featuring NCAA Division I and Division II schools.
Pairs competition will begin on Saturday as the teams begin play at 8:30 a.m. ET/7:30 a.m. CT. It will continue on Sunday with the playoffs and single matches from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET.
UAB has already competed in a pairs tournament this season as seniors Kiriana Hirini and Bethanie Thomas finished as runner-up after making it to the championship match.
The duo will look to continue their success from last season as Hirini and Thomas won the Upper Division bracket.
The Blazers are coming off a 3-2 win over Mercer in their final home match of the regular season. The top three pairs all had to win for UAB to earn the victory.
