BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Mark Ingram announced Wednesday the elevation of Dylynn Otte to head coach of the UAB beach volleyball program.
Otte has spent the last three seasons on staff with the Blazers and played a key role in helping guide the program through the most successful stretch in school history.
"Dylynn has been a part of our program for a long time. Her experience as one of our student-athletes and an assistant coach has given her a unique view of our strengths," said Ingram. "She has been a tremendous part of our growth and stood out as an impressive and obvious choice to our committee and staff."
"UAB has been home for the last several years, and it's hard to put into words what this opportunity means to me," Otte said. "I want to thank Mark Ingram and everyone involved in the search process for their confidence in me. I'm also incredibly thankful to Coach Delaney for the impact she had on this program and on me personally. We have accomplished so much together, but I believe the best days of UAB Beach Volleyball are still ahead. I'm excited to get to work with our student-athletes and continue building a championship culture."
Otte, who was recently married and will assume the surname Miller, takes over a program coming off the most successful season in school history.
Otte was named AVCA Thirty Under 30 in 2024 and helped lead the Blazers to a historic 2026 season in which UAB posted a program-record 26 wins and finished undefeated in Conference USA play.
She played a major role in the development of UAB's first AVCA All-Americans, Jasmine Haas and Olivia Stant, who earned second-team honors in 2026. The pair set program records for single-season wins (29), wins as a duo (29) and Court 1 victories (29).
In 2025, Otte helped guide the Blazers to what was then a program-record 21 wins, while Haas and Stant established a then-program-record 26 wins as a duo.
During Otte's first season on staff in 2023-24, UAB set a school record with 19 wins and helped develop Arden Copping into the program's all-time wins leader at the time with 70 career victories.
The Blazers also excelled academically under Otte's guidance. During the 2023-24 academic year, beach volleyball posted the highest collective GPA of any team at UAB and earned the AVCA Team Academic Award.
Prior to joining the coaching staff, Otte competed for the Blazers from 2020-22 and served as team captain in both 2021 and 2022. A versatile player who contributed as both a blocker and defender, she totaled 24 career wins and remains tied for seventh in program history in Court 2 victories.
Following graduation, Otte worked within UAB's 1917 Clinic before moving to St. Petersburg, Florida, where she trained professionally and served as NexGen Director and Head Coach for Optimum Beach Volleyball Club. She also worked with Edge Volleyball Training and previously served as a program coordinator for Alabama Performance Volleyball Club from 2020-23.
Before arriving at UAB, Otte was a four-year indoor volleyball student-athlete and two-year captain at SIU Edwardsville from 2016-19 before transferring to UAB beach volleyball in 2020. She graduated from SIUE with a 3.8 GPA in public health and earned her master's degree in epidemiology from UAB with a 3.86 GPA.
Otte succeeds Delaney Rose, who leaves the program as the winningest coach in school history after helping elevate UAB into one of the nation's emerging beach volleyball programs. During Rose's tenure, the Blazers reached new heights, including the program's first national ranking, an undefeated Conference USA season, the program's first AVCA All-Americans and a school-record 26 victories in 2026.
Rose guided UAB to 66 victories over the last three seasons, including three consecutive school-record win totals, and helped establish a foundation that positioned the Blazers among the top programs in Conference USA and the Southeast.
