Blazers Blank Visiting Jackson State, 4-0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB men's tennis team got back in the win column Wednesday as the Blazers shut out visiting Jackson State, 4-0, at the Lakeshore Tennis Center.
UAB (6-10) won the doubles point and then captured at the lower three positions in the singles lineup en route to the win over the Tigers (3-19).
In doubles, the Blazers won at the No. 1 and 2 positions and were leading at No. 3 before the match was halted. Luiz Felipe Pinto teamed with Stepan Vancurik to down the Jackson State duo of Federico Buscarino and Hernan Geria, 8-0, at No. 1. Christian Coetzee and Donovan McSeveney were 8-2 winners at the No. 2 spot over Richie Agerwal and Vishu Prasad.
Vancurik, Coetzee and Oliver Poysti were the winners in singles for the Blazers.
Vancurik claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 over JSU's Federico Mendeietta Ruiz, Coetzee was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 5 over Prasad and Poysti defeated Agerwal 6-4, 1-0, retired.
McSeveney was leading his match at No. 2 singles as was Pinto at No. 3 when play was halted after UAB clinched the match with its fourth point.
The Blazers will now turn their attention to Thursday's home match (10 a.m.) vs. Alabama A&M as the team celebrates Senior Day. Lone UAB senior Donovan McSeveney will be recognized prior to the match.
