BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Paul Dunne added another honor to his stellar UAB men’s golf career after earning Division I PING All-America Honorable Mention accolades, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Thursday.
Dunne becomes just the third player to earn All-America honors twice, after being named Third Team All-American last season. He joins Graeme McDowell (2000-01, 2001-02) and Zach Sucher (2006-07, 2007-08) with two consecutive All-America selections.
The Greystones, Ireland native led the team with a 71.9 stroke average over 36 rounds played in 2014-15. Dunne also led the squad in rounds at or under par (18), scoring differential (3.0), top 10 finishes (3) and top 20 finishes (5). He was second on the team in percentage of rounds counted (87.1) and tournaments at or under par (4).
Becoming the first player in UAB history to compete in three NCAA Championships, Dunne saved his best for last after placing fifth at the 2015 NCAA Championships at the Concession Golf Club. He carded three rounds at or under par to earn the second-best finish at nationals in UAB history.
This season he helped lead the Blazers to their first NCAA Regional win, topping the 14-team field with a 21-under at the Gold Mountain Golf Club to send UAB to nationals.
He was named to the All-Conference USA First Team after guiding the Blazers to a second-place finish at the C-USA Championships and back-to-back wins to close out the regular season.
Dunne was not only a standout on the course, but recently graduated with his degree in business finance. He was a C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll honoree all four years, earned the C-USA Academic Medal three times and a two-time C-USA All-Academic Team selection.
