BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB's men's soccer team closed out the preseason exhibition slate with a 5-1 loss to No. 11 Clemson Sunday afternoon at West Campus Field.
The match was scheduled for Saturday night, but after thunderstorms in the area moved in during the first half of play, the game was moved to Sunday.
Clemson took a 2-0 lead to the break, before both teams struck quickly within the first two minutes of the second period. Chandler Stroupe took advantage of an open net cutting the lead in half, but the Tigers responded with a goal a minute later.
Clemson went on to add two more goals in the 61st and 62nd minute. The Tigers took 19 shots for 11 on goal, while the Blazers tallied six shots.
UAB opens the 2015 regular season Friday, Aug. 28 at longtime rival Memphis. First kick is set for 7 p.m.
