BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB volleyball team looks for its first conference win as the Blazers host Charlotte on Sunday in Bartow Arena. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
UAB currently sits 0-3 in conference play after being defeated by FIU, North Texas and Middle Tennessee earlier in the season. The 49ers opened C-USA play this week with three-straight matches. Charlotte defeated UTEP on Monday, 3-1, before falling to Marshall, 3-2, on Friday.

Series History
UAB and Charlotte have met six times in the past with the series tied at 3-3. The 49ers notched the most recent win, 3-0, over the Blazers in North Carolina last season.
In the 2014 C-USA opener, the 49ers attacked at a .440 team mark with 42 total kills compared to just 28 from the Blazers. Then sophomore Gabby Deshotel garnered seven kills and two blocks for UAB while setter Amber Treace dished out 22 assists. Ashlyn Sunseri picked up four digs in the match.
Scouting the Opponent
The 49ers enter Sunday's match with a 4-8 record overall while sitting 1-1 in Conference USA action. Charlotte's conference win came against UTEP on Monday. The 49ers fell to Marshall, 2-3, on Friday. Charlotte has also picked up three-set sweeps over Davidson, UNC Asheville and Liberty to cap the win column.
Sarah McDonald leads Charlotte with 134 kills and averages 3.12 per set. The versatile player has tallied nine assists, 11 service aces, 13 blocks and 85 digs for the 49ers. Britney Leigh Held has dished out 447 assists at the setter position to average a staggering 10.40 per set. Held ranks third in C-USA in assists.
Shelby Green has garnered 192 digs to top the 49ers defense. With a 4.47 per set average, Green ranks third in C-USA in the category. The libero also is Conference USA's leader in service aces. Green has 20 aces through 43 sets.
Ri'chard Named C-USA Freshman of the Week
After an outstanding performance at the Fight Like Hal Memorial Tournament, redshirt freshman Zahria Ri'chard was tabbed C-USA Freshman of the Week. Ri'chard closed the week with 33 total kills to average 1.94 per set and attacked at a lethal .433 percentage. The middle blocker led the league amongst freshman with 21 blocks over the week while ranking second with 44.5 points. Ri'chard set new career-highs in kills (11), hit percentage (.833) and blocks (nine) over the week. The Detroit, Mich., native leads the Blazers in blocking and ranks sixth in C-USA in the category. The weekly honor was the first won by any Blazer this season.
