Coetzee, Komati Shine at Southern Miss Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Led by co-captains Eric Komati and Christian Coetzee, the UAB men's tennis team boasted a 14-4 mark in singles play and a 7-2 record in doubles action this weekend at the Southern Miss Invitational.
"Our players competed wekk against stiff competition," head coach Derek Tarr said. "Our two seniors, Eric and Christian, impressed again by going undefeated."
Komati and Coetzee secured nine wins for the Green and Gold as the duo were perfect in singles with three wins while also combining for three wins as UAB's top doubles tandem.
Freshman Giovani Pasini never faltered in singles action as he finished the weekend with three wins. Kenton Parton and Fernando Vargas both went 2-1 in singles matches, but combined for three doubles points for the Blazers.
In fall action, Coetzee's record remains unblemished with a 6-0 record in both singles and doubles play.
"The past two tournament we have played in have been great," Coetzee said. "Everyone has been competing well and we will carry on working hard. We're really looking forward to Regionals."
The Golden Eagles' tournament featured the Blazers along with South Alabama, New Orleans and William Carey.
Next up, UAB heads down the road to Auburn to compete in the ITA Southern Regionals.
