UAB Volleyball Travels to In-State Rival Alabama State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB volleyball team will make the short drive to Montgomery, Ala., on Wednesday to face Alabama State in a non-conference mid-week matchup.

The Series:
UAB leads the all-time series with Alabama State 15-5. The last time these two teams faced each other was in 2015 where the Hornets downed the Blazers, 3-2, on their home court.
On the Blazers
Erika Zembyla leads the Blazer offense with 253 kills (3.24 kills/set) on 755 total attempts for a .184 hitting percent­age. She has recorded 18 total blocks (0.23 blocks/set) with eight of them being solo and 10 block assist. She’s tied for first on the team with 25 service aces and is the only Blazer to record a double-double this season.
Haley Jared is second on the squad with 236 kills (2.88 kills/set) on 682 attempts. She has 31 blocks (0.38 blocks/set) on the season and has recorded 87 digs (1.06 digs/set).
Amber Treace controls the offense with 853 assists (10.04 assists/set). Her .242 attack percentage is third best on the team and she has tallied 44 total blocks (0.52 blocks/set).
Petra Silic leads the defensive charge with an impressive 84 total blocks (1.00 blocks/set) with 20 of those being solo. She’s second on the squad with a .259 attack percentage and has 179 kills (2.13 kills/set) on the season. She is tied for first with Zembyla in service aces.
Victoria Young has made her presence known at the net with 80 total blocks (0.96 blocks/set). She leads the squad with a .311 attack percentage and has struck 144 kills (1.73 kills/set).
Kenley Adams has stepped up in a big way for the Blazers as a freshman. She’s fourth on the team with 155 kills (1.91 kills/set) for a .179 attack percentage. She has 69 assists on the season and has tallied 53 total blocks (0.65 blocks/set).
Emily Martinez has covered the floor for the Blazers at the libero position this season. She leads the team with 359 digs and is third on the squad with 16 service aces.
Scouting Alabama State
Briana Dorsey leads the Alabama State offense with 167 kills (2.57 kills/set) and a .363 attack percentage. She also leads the Hornets in total blocks with 63 (0.97 blocks/set).
Krystal Medearis is second on the team with 150 kills (2.34 kills/set) for a .159 hitting percentage. She’s third on the team with 37 blocks and has only committed seven errors.
Justus Tuiolosega leads the team with 362 assists (5.57 assists/set) and is third on the squad with 102 digs (1.57 digs/set). She also has a team-high 32 service aces.
Jamie Coleman covers the floor at libero and defensive specialist and has recorded a team-high 282 digs (4.34 digs/set).
Candace Martin ranks second on the team with 46 total blocks (0.77 blocks/set.) with five of them being solo blocks.
A Look Ahead
UAB will travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., on Sunday, Oct. 23 to face Middle Tennessee for the second time this season. The Blue Raiders defeated the Blazers, 3-1, back in Sept. at Bartow Arena.
