LAKEPOINT, Ga. – The Coastal Collegiate Sports Associate (CCSA), of which the UAB Beach Volleyball program competes in, has announced the addition of College of Charleston and UNC Wilmington to its conference.
The expansion with College of Charleston and UNCW now brings the CCSA up to 10 teams, which includes FAU, FIU, Florida State, Georgia State, LSU, Tulane, South Carolina and UAB.
"The CCSA is thrilled to welcome two outstanding programs to beach volleyball in College of Charleston and UNC Wilmington,” CCSA Executive Director Mike Hagen said. “Through continued collaboration, additional student-athletes will have the opportunity to participate in a championship and be recognized for their athletic and academic achievements. We look forward to great competition with the Cougars and Seahawks in the CCSA."
Now entering its second year of sponsoring beach volleyball as a conference, the CCSA is one of the nation’s top leagues in a rapidly growing NCAA sport. Florida State, the inaugural CCSA Beach Volleyball champion, finished runner-up in the first-ever NCAA Beach Volleyball National Championship in 2016. Georgia State also earned a bid to the National Championship after finishing runner-up in the CCSA Championship last season.
The Blazers hosted the inaugural NCAA National Championship in Gulf Shores, Ala., and will once again host the tournament in 2017. For their outstanding hospitality, UAB and the NCAA were honored by SportsTravel for Best New Event at last month’s TEAMS (Travel, Events and Management in Sport) conference and expo in Atlantic City.
