UAB Hits the Road to Battle Southern Miss

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – With only three matches left to play in the regular season, the UAB volleyball team will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., to face Southern Miss in a conference matchup at Reed Green Coliseum.

The Series:
UAB narrowly leads the all-time series with Southern Miss 25-23 but fell to the Golden Eagles in straight sets the last time the two teams met in 2015.
On the Blazers:
Erika Zembyla continues to lead the Blazers’ offense with 313 kills (3.40 kills/set) and is second on the team with 25 service aces. She has a .217 attack percentage and has recorded 25 blocks (0.27 blocks/set) this season.
Amber Treace paces the offense with 983 assists (9.93 assists/set), which places her third in the conference. She is tied for second on the team with 188 digs (1.90 digs/set) and has tallied 50 blocks (0.51 blocks/set).
Haley Jared is second on the squad with 261 kills (2.75 kills/set) for a .169 hitting percentage. She has recorded 99 digs (1.04 digs/set) and 35 blocks (0.37 blocks/set) this season.
Petra Silic leads the team and is fourth in the conference with 96 blocks (0.98 blocks/set). She also leads the Blazers with 27 service aces and has struck 201 kills (2.05 kills/set) for a .262 attack percentage.
Victoria Young is as versatile as they come. She has the highest hitting percentage on the team with a .307 mark and is just as good on defense with 88 total blocks (0.91 blocks/sets).
Kenley Adams continues to make her presence known on the team as the lone freshman starter. She has 173 kills (1.84 kills/set) for a .174 hitting percentage and is second on the squad with 77 assists. She has tallied 16 service aces and 58 blocks (0.62 blocks/set).
Emily Martinez and Sydney Hinds have been covering the back line for the Blazers all season. Martinez is third in the conference with 413 digs (4.17 digs/set) while Hinds is tied for second on the team with 188 digs (1.90 digs/set).
Scouting Southern Miss:
The Golden Eagles come into the match with an 18-7 overall record. Stephany Purdue has a team-high 340 kills (3.82 kills/set) and Kylie Grandy is second behind her with 252 (2.93 kills/set). Sarah Bell leads the team in attack percentage with a .298 mark. Defensively, Catherine Repsher is best on the squad with 106 total blocks (1.22 blocks/set) and Natalie Druhan has tallied a team-high 347 digs.
A Look Ahead:
The Blazers travel to Boca Raton, Fla., to face Florida Atlantic in their final road match of the ­­­­season. First serve is set for 6 p.m. in FAU Arena.
