“I am thrilled to have two incoming freshmen from awesome families,” head coach Kim Wilcox said. “With these two signees, I expect our team to be deeper this fall.”
Fowler comes to the Blazers from Tuscaloosa, Ala. Most notably she finished second at the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour’s (SJGT) Ol’ Colony Classic. She made an appearance on the, nationally recognized American Junior Golf Organization tour, finishing 18th overall at the Ledges Tournament July 12-14, 2016 in Huntsville, Ala.
Fowler played high school golf for Rob Cain at American Christian Academy (ACA) in Tuscaloosa, Ala. She finished third in the state as a sophomore and most recently finished sixth as a junior. She carries a 4.28 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society.
“Stephenie is quite strong academically as well as an excellent golfer,” Wilcox said. “She is a great addition to our team.”
Johnson comes to UAB from Millen, Ga., where she finished first in her age group at the SJGT Forest Hills Classic and also claimed the Overall Women’s Championship honor that was held Aug. 27-28, 2016. On the local stage, Fowler dominated by claiming multiple Georgia Sate Golf Association crowns over the course of her junior golf career.
Johnson attends Burke County High School where she is an honor student as well as dual enrolling, and is currently earning 29 hours of college credit. She carries a 3.96 GPA and intends to major in sports communications upon arrival at UAB in the fall.
Coach Wilcox had this to say about Johnson, “Dorminy has extensive tournament experience and that is key to playing college golf.”
