UAB Set for South Carolina Beach Duals Tournament

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB beach volleyball team competes in its first tournament of the season as the Blazers travel to South Carolina for the South Carolina Beach Duals.
UAB (1-2) is scheduled to square off in four matches over the weekend beginning Saturday with a doubleheader against Coastal Carolina and Mercer.
The Blazers open the tournament against the Chanticleers at 8 a.m. CT in what is Coastal Carolina's first contest of the 2016 season. UAB faces Mercer (2-1) for the third time after dropping back-to-back contests with the Bears to open the season. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.
UAB matches up with No. 17 South Carolina on Sunday for a 10 a.m. CT meeting for the Blazers' first taste of conference action. The Gamecocks (2-3, 0-1) competed in their inaugural conference game over opening weekend when South Carolina met Florida State at the Sun Devil Challenge.
The Blazers close the tournament against fellow conference member No. 18 Tulane for a 2 p.m. CT contest. The Green Wave rolled to a 4-1 opening weekend with its lone loss coming against Stetson, 4-1.
UAB enters the weekend coming off its first victory of the season as the Blazers defeated Spring Hill, 4-1, in Mobile, Alabama, on Tuesday. Chelsi Carter leads the Blazers with a 3-0 individual record.
