UAB Beach Volleyball Falls to Mercer in Season Opener

Chelsi Carter and Avery Hoven were undefeated at the No. 3 position in both matches to lead the Blazers (0-2) on opening day.
Carter and Hoven swept Mercer’s duo Danielle Faust and Claire Walkczek in two sets to give UAB an advantage in the first match of the game.
Gabbi Moreno and Emily Martinez won the first set against Ellie James and Madison Kerr at the No. 4 position before the Mercer duo battled back to win set two. Moreno and Martinez held on in the third set to win the match, 2-1.
Mercer claimed victories at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 positions to win the first match, 3-2.
Carter and Hoven dropped the second set at the No. 3 position to Faust and Walkczek, but claimed a 2-1 victory in game two to remain perfect on the day for UAB.
Amber Treace and Rachel Evans swept Mercer pair James and Kerr in two sets for the second Blazer victory in the game, but Mercer did not drop a single set at the final three positions to secure a 3-2 victory.
UAB has a quick turnaround in the schedule as the Blazers take on Spring Hill on Tuesday at 2 p.m. CT.
