Beach Volleyball Opens CCSA Conference Championship Friday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB volleyball team kicks off the inaugural Coastal Collegiate Association Beach Volleyball Championship on Friday with three pool play contests at Lakepoint Sporting Community in Emerson, Georgia.
The eight teams selected to compete for the inaugural championship have been divided into two four-team pools. The top-three teams in each pool will advance to the knockout phase with each pool’s winner receiving a bye into the semifinals.
After posting a 13-15 regular season record, UAB was selected as the No. 8 seed in the tournament and is slated to compete against No. 1 Florida State, No. 4 LSU and No. 5 South Carolina over the three-game pool play schedule.
The Blazers open the tournament on Friday with a doubleheader dual. UAB takes on No. 5 South Carolina at 7 a.m. CT before facing No. 4 LSU to 12 p.m. CT. The Blazers close pool play on Saturday against No. 1 Florida State at 9:30 a.m. CT.
UAB has faced two of its three pool play opponents earlier this season. The Blazers have faced the Gamecocks twice at South Carolina, dropping 4-1 and 5-0 decisions. UAB competed against Florida State in the regular season finale as the Seminoles came out on top, 5-0. The Blazers are facing LSU for the first time this season.
