Beach Volleyball Falls in CCSA Championship Pool Play

EMERSON, Ga. – The UAB beach volleyball team open the inaugural CCSA Championship by dropping contests to No. 5 South Carolina and No. 4 LSU in pool play Friday at the Lakepoint Sporting Community.
Gabbi Moreno and Emily Martinez opened Friday’s play with a 21-18 victory in the first set against South Carolina on the No. 5 court, but the Gamecocks stormed back with a 21-18, 15-10 victory to take the match.
No. 2 pair Michaela Reesor and Avery Hoven bounced back after dropping set one to the Gamecocks, 21-16, to even the match with a 21-17 victory in set two, but the Gamecocks snuffed the come back with a 15-12 victory in the decisive set.
Sara Rishell and Chelsi Carter answered back on court No. 1 with a 23-21 victory in the second set, but the Gamecocks took the match with 21-16, 15-12 wins to close a 5-0 sweep over UAB.
Reesor and Hoven notched UAB’s only set victory against No. 4 LSU as the No. 2 pair opened the contest with a 21-19 decision before the Tigers answered with back-to-back sets, 21-15, 15-13.
The Tigers swept the remaining Blazers pairs in straight sets to cap a 5-0 victory.
UAB closes pool play Saturday morning against No. 1 Florida State at 9:30 a.m. CT. The top-three teams in both pools of competition will advance to the knockout phase. Each pool’s winner received a bye into the semifinals.
