TEXARKANA, Ark. - Sophomore Taylor Eyster and the No. 38 UAB men's golf team maintained its lead over the field Monday afternoon in round two of the Conference USA Men's Gold Championship at Texarkana Country Club. The Blazers shot a six-over 294 as a team, bringing its tournament total to three-over 579 (285-294).
"Taylor was very impressive, once again," head coach Alan Murray said. "If his putter was warmer, he could have a really great score."
Eyster continues to hold the individual lead after shooting one over in the second round. He holds a six stroke lead over the rest of the field at seven-under. Meanwhile, teammates John Hayden and Lee Hodges are locked in a tie for 12th at three-over through two days. Hayden carded a 75, allowing Hodges to tie with his day-two 74.
"The conditions were tough today," Murray said. "The wind put pin positions in spots that were hard to get to, but we were able to extend our lead despite the conditions.
Louisiana Tech is tied with the MTSU for second place. Senior Chuck Spears had the Bulldogs top showing of day two with an even-72. He and fellow senior Victor Lange are part of the five-way tie for third place at even-par 144, along with Duncan and freshman Thomas Rosenmueller of North Texas.
