UAB Finishes Third at USA Intercollegiate

Mobile, Ala.- The UAB women's golf team finished third to begin the season at the USA Intercollegiate. The Blazers finished play earlier today with Rebecca Chandler placing second overall.
"I am proud of the girls and Rebecca's personal best. More records were broken today as well," head coach Kim Wilcox said. "We are looking forward to playing in the Chris Banister Golf Classic in a few weeks."
Three strong days of play guided the UAB Blazers to a school record 886 team score at the USA Intercollegiate. They broke the previous record set at the 2014 C-USA Championships by 10 strokes.
Chandler entered the final round in second place individually. Her one over 73 secured her second place finish and allowed her to finish at one over for the tournament.
Sydney Snodgrass and Kayla Wilbourn each finished in a tie for 12th place, each shooting seven over for the tournament. Snodgrass shot a 76 (+4) in the final round, while Wilbourn matched her round one score with a 74 (+2).
Juliana Sebastian cracked the Top-20 with a final round 73 (+1) to finish at eight over for the tournament.
Kenna Hughes improved each day in her collegiate debut. In the final round, she shot 75 (+3), 21 over for the tournament, and finished in 48th place.
Southern Mississippi took home the team crown with a three day eight over score. They were followed by Eastern Kentucky (+14) and UAB (+22).
Individually, Chanelle Avaricio of Alabama State University finished the tournament one under and took home the title. UAB returns to action at the Chris Banister Golf Classic. That event is scheduled for September 25-27.
