NEW ORLEANS, La. – The No. 19 UAB Bowling Team used a 4-1 day and five games with 1,000+ pinfall to sit in fourth place going into the final day of the AllState Sugar Bowl Collegiate Bowling Invitational.
"It was one of the most amazing days in the history of our program," head coach Michelle Crews said. "We have all five girls who bowled in every game make the top-25 in this very talented field. Taylor made the All-Tournament Team and many of our girls had their best career day with everyone averaging 200."
Taylor Russell headlined an impressive UAB lineup with a second place finish. The Mississippi native bowled games of 233, 231, 241, 256 and 211 for a 234.40 average.
Rachel Strogin also notched a top-10 finish after amassing a 1065 pinfall and a 213.00 average.
Sierra Lewis finished 13th, freshman Elise London finished 22ns and Caitlin Cunningham rounded out the top-25 Blazers in 24th place.
UAB is set to take on Tulane, the number three place team, the first round of the Championship Bracket. The games feature a best of seven format with the Blazers able to take home team honors if they can go undefeated tomorrow.
"Something special is happening on this team and I cannot wait to see what is to come," Crews said.
